Maharashtra Education 100 Day Action Plan: Marathi Language and State Anthem Compulsory

On January 13, 2025, Honourable Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was presented with a 100-day action plan by the Maharashtra School Education Department in the School Education Department meeting for the improvement of education in Maharashtra. Numerous measures that improve teaching quality, infrastructure development, and overall student progress were outlined in this comprehensive strategy.

We explain some of the discussed measures of this action plan in this blog.

Measures in the 100-Day Action Plan:

Honourable School Education Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse and a panel of Ministers from the Education Ministry of Maharashtra proposed the following set of directives for the improvement of education in Maharashtra.

  • The State anthem “Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha” will be made compulsory in all schools including non-state Board schools. Marathi will also be made mandatory as a medium of instruction and communication across all schools in this plan. Through this directive, Hon. Minister Bhuse emphasised the importance of encouraging students to take pride in the state's language and traditions.
  • To facilitate the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 structural guidelines, every school and Anganwadi in Maharashtra will be geo-tagged.
  • The measures also included a plan to introduce a revised State Curriculum Framework (SCF) that is in line with the NEP from the academic year 2025-26. This revised SCF will contribute to the growth of the state’s education system in terms of national and international standards.
  • Inspired by the “PM SHRI School Initiative”, one school from each cluster across Maharashtra will be marked as ‘CM SHRI School’. These schools will receive quality resources, upgraded infrastructure, and expert staffing support.
  • The plan also emphasised on expediting the verification of student’s Aadhaar numbers for proper documentation.
  • The guidelines also stated the need for efficient management and restructuring of school management committees. Training sessions will be conducted for improvement in management and decision-making.
  • For quality education, the state also aims to expedite teacher recruitment.
  • For the efficient time management of schools, teachers, and students, any education-related information should be digitalised.
  • Among other initiatives, the state plans efforts to bring back out-of-school children and children of brick kiln labourers, sugarcane cutters, and agricultural workers into the education system.

Hon. Education Minister Bhuse explained to the media, “From infrastructure upgrades to curriculum reforms, our focus is on building an education ecosystem that is both innovative and accessible.”

“A strong school system paves the way for a brighter future. We are committed to ensuring that every child, irrespective of background, receives the best possible education,” Hon. CM Fadnavis praised.

Kindly note that these initiatives might be subject to change as per the Ministry of Education.
