In a vision set to reshape the educational landscape of India, Honourable Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke at the ET Roundtable about a few changes that will be made to the education system.

Let’s examine a few of the topics he discussed:

Board Exam Updates

In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), the Honourable Education Minister Pradhan informed that Board exams will take place twice a year from the academic year 2026-27. With this new directive, it is intended to reduce exam stress and to help students prosper.

Class 11 and 12 Updates

On the recommendation of the NEP, a “semester system” for class 11 and class 12 is under discussion. The Honourable Minister informed that these changes are part of a larger reform to unburden students.

NEET Exam Updates

Honourable Minister Pradhan also discussed the NEET exam leak crisis of 2024. 

He informed that a final decision will be taken soon on the changes in NEET-UG in co-operation with the Ministry of Health. According to the Honourable Minister, the NEET exam should have a “UPSC-like exam model.” However, he also reassured that the changes will not shock the students. He stated that with the assistance of state governments and even district-level administration, a collaborative effort is required.
