CBSE Implements Competency-Based Education for the Academic Year 2024-25 for Classes 9 to 12

Attention all students, parents, and educators!

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is transforming the way students are assessed! In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the board is moving away from rote memorisation and towards a more holistic approach that focuses on developing critical skills for the 21st century.

What's Changing in Assessment Practises?

The focus is now on Competency-Based Education (CBE). This means assessments will go beyond just testing knowledge retention. Instead, they will measure a student's ability to apply their understanding in real-world scenarios.

Here's what you can expect for the 2024-25 academic session:

  • Emphasis on Critical Thinking: Exams will feature more questions that encourage students to analyse, evaluate, and solve problems creatively.
  • Developing Systems Thinking: Students will be encouraged to explore how different concepts relate to each other and apply them in different situations.
  • Farewell to Rote Learning: Emphasis will shift away from simply memorising facts and figures. Assessments will focus on a deeper understanding of concepts.

These circulars highlight the importance of including Competency-Based Questions, which reflect a wider educational approach aimed at supporting overall student growth.
