Are you someone who struggles with difficult subjects like Maths and Science and your real talent lies elsewhere? Then we got great news for you! According to the new curriculum framework 2024, the Maharashtra Board has proposed to lower the passing marks from 35 to 20 for Maths and Science subjects.
However, students will be marked as ‘passed’ on their report cards, along with mentioning that they’re no longer eligible to pursue Maths and Science in the future. Previously, failing these subjects often left students with limited options, forcing them to either repeatedly attempt to clear the exams or discontinue their studies altogether. This new rule eliminates the pressure of struggling with difficult subjects and gives you the freedom to focus on your passions and pursue the streams you are genuinely interested in.
In the light of this matter, the Chairman of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education clarified that the reduced passing marks won’t take effect this year. Instead, the changes will be introduced when the new curriculum is rolled out.
Reactions to this decision have been mixed among educationists. While some welcome the move, believing it will reduce pressure on students, others are raising concerns about how it might affect the overall standards of education. Supporters see it as a positive step toward a more flexible learning environment, but critics worry about the long-term impact on academic rigor and future opportunities for students.
The real impact of this rule will be clearer once it's implemented. In the meantime, it offers a ray of hope for students who struggle with Maths or Science. Instead of feeling trapped or even considering dropping out if things don’t go their way, they’ll now have the chance to focus on what they love. This change means they won’t have to give up on their dreams.
