The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is one of the most competitive exams in India, shaping the future of aspiring engineers and architects. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the guidance of the Ministry of Education. Starting from 2025, there will be a significant change in the exam pattern, particularly in Section B, that candidates need to be aware of.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NTA introduced an option for candidates to select any 5 questions out of 10 in Section B of each subject. This change was made to ease the challenges posed by the pandemic, has been in effect from 2021 to 2024.
However, as the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency in May 2023, the NTA has decided to revert to the original exam structure. Starting with JEE Main 2025, the option to select questions in Section B will be discontinued.
In JEE Main 2025, Section B will once again feature only 5 questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 questions. There will be no choice to skip or select from a larger pool of questions as was allowed in previous years. This change will apply to:
The optional questions in Section B were a temporary measure to support students during the uncertainties of the pandemic. With the global health situation now stabilized, the NTA aims to restore the exam's original format, ensuring consistency across all future exams.
Students preparing for JEE Main 2025 should familiarize themselves with this updated format and ensure their study plans align with the revised structure. The detailed exam pattern will be provided in the Information Bulletin of JEE Main 2025, which will be released soon.
Candidates are encouraged to stay informed by regularly checking the official websites of the NTA, www.nta.ac.in and https://jeemain.nta.nic.in, for the latest updates and clarifications regarding the JEE Main 2025 examination.
