Aspiring engineers in Maharashtra who took the MHT-CET for Engineering (PCM) on May 4th raised concerns about a faulty question in the exam paper. This two-mark question, carrying significant weight, is alleged to contain a critical error that could significantly impact student scores.
Let's delve deeper into this issue and see how it's unfolding.
Reports suggest the question might have been adapted from a previous JEE (Main) paper but with a crucial mistake. Apparently, the equation included "(x)" instead of the correct "(x^3)". This error could have led students down an incorrect problem-solving path, wasting precious exam time.
Fortunately, the Maharashtra State CET Cell has implemented an "objection tracker" system for all their CET exams. This allows students to challenge the validity of questions they believe are incorrect. The window to raise objections for the MHT-CET 2024 PCM paper closed on Sunday.
The public notice regarding the objection tracker clarifies a few key points:
Objection Fee Non-Refundable: The fee paid for raising objections is non-refundable, even if the objection is later accepted.
Benefits of Upheld Objections: If an objection is accepted, the corrective action will be applied to the scores of all students in the batch, not just those who raised the objection. This ensures fairness for everyone.
A parent of a test-taker highlighted the potential impact of the erroneous question, stating that students might have spent valuable minutes attempting an unsolvable problem. The CET cell has assured that the objections raised will be reviewed by subject experts, and a decision will be made accordingly.
With over 7 lakh students registered for the MHT-CET this year, a fair and accurate exam is crucial. We'll keep an eye on the situation and update you on the CET cell's official response regarding the question and any potential impact on scores.
