Get Ready, Maharashtra! PAT Exams for Classes 3-9 Begin from Oct 22

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will provide question papers for the upcoming second Progressive Assessment Test (PAT-2). Serving as the first semester exams, these tests will cover languages and Mathematics for classes 3 to 9 across public and private-supported schools in Maharashtra. Scheduled from 22nd to 25th October 2024, PAT-2 aims to assess students' progress in a standardised format statewide.

Therefore, schools are not encouraged to conduct any separate tests for these subjects.

Overall, the test will be held in ten mediums: Marathi, Urdu, English, Hindi, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Sindhi, and Bengali. This week, the question papers will cover three subjects: first language, Mathematics, and third language (English). Schools must follow the state-provided exam schedule, which will assess the first-term syllabus. Schools will only conduct their own exams for subjects like Science and Social Science.

The test will support teachers in enhancing their teaching methods, ensuring that all students reach the expected academic levels. Its primary purpose is to bring about improvements in how subjects are taught and to guide teachers in refining their strategies so students can meet learning goals more effectively. Additionally, it will help boost students' academic performance and streamline the teaching process, making learning more effective and engaging.

The format of the PAT exam differentiates on the basis of classes.

The format of the PAT exam differs by class. For students in Classes 3 and 4, the test is out of 40 marks, with 10 marks for oral assessment. Classes 5 and 6 will have a 50-mark test, Classes 7 and 8 will take a 60-mark test, and Class 9 students will be assessed with a 100-mark paper. And the final of the three tests will be held in April 2025.

Additionally, school teachers are responsible for assessing the papers, and they should upload the students' scores on the official website of the Ministry of Education's Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK). School heads will need to arrange for 10 percent of the graded answer sheets to be randomly checked by education training institutes to ensure quality and consistency.
