PRERANA - Igniting the Flame of Inspiration in Indian Youth

Ever wondered what it takes to shape the future leaders of our nation?

If you're a student in Classes 9 to 12 with a passion for learning and a desire to make a positive impact, there's an exciting opportunity waiting for you.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has recently introduced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering experiential learning and leadership qualities among students. Named 'Prerana: An Experiential Learning Program,' this week-long residential program for selected students from class IX to XII is set to redefine education by integrating the principles of the Indian education system and the values emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

What's Prerana All About?

Embracing Tradition and Innovation

Prerana is all about blending India's education principles and the philosophy of value-based education, which is a big part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The main aim is to inspire young people, helping them appreciate India's diversity and promoting the idea that the whole world is like a big family ('Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'). The big goal is to give these students the power to be positive forces for change and inspire others with what they learn from Prerana. The program is hosted at a Vernacular School in Vadnagar, Gujarat, established in 1888, showcasing the indomitable spirit of a city with a rich history and heritage. The curriculum, prepared by IIT Gandhi Nagar, revolves around nine value-based themes, reflecting the core principles of the program.

A Glimpse into the Prerana Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on themes such as स्वाभिमान और विनय (self-respect and humility), शौर्य और साहस (courage and determination), परिश्रम और समर्पण (hard work and dedication), करुणा और सेवा (compassion and service), विविधता और एकता (diversity and unity), सत्यनिष्ठा और शुचिता (truthfulness and honesty), नवचार और जिज्ञासा (innovation and curiosity), श्रद्धा और विश्वास (faith and trust), and स्वतंत्रता और कर्त्तव्य (independence and responsibility).

The Prerana Experience

The week-long program features a holistic schedule, including yoga, mindfulness, and meditation sessions to cultivate a sense of self-awareness and well-being. Participants will engage in experiential learning, thematic sessions, and hands-on activities, promoting a well-rounded educational experience. Evening activities encompass visits to ancient and heritage sites, inspirational film screenings, mission life creative activities, talent shows, and more.

How to Join the Fun?

Registration & Selection Process

  • Interested students from Class IX to XII can register for Prerana through the online portal: prerana.education.gov.in.
  • Applicants have the option to engage in the selection process at the school/block level during designated 'Prerana Utsav' days.
  • This involves participating in activities aligned with Prerana's values to showcase their well-rounded personalities and eagerness to contribute to shaping the nation's future.

Nurturing Change Makers

Upon selection, the 20 participants (10 boys and 10 girls) will embark on a transformative journey of inspiration, innovation, and self-discovery. The program aims to instil the ethos of Prerana in participants, empowering them to become change-makers in their respective communities. These young leaders will carry forward the spirit of Prerana, sparking positive change and inspiring others to follow suit.

Conclusion:

In essence, Prerana signifies a revolutionary step towards creating a generation of empowered and inspired individuals, ready to contribute to the development of a progressive and united Bharat.
